Iran to Expand Collaboration with the Philippines in Biotech
Filipino delegation visited Agricultural Biotechnology Research Institute of Iran (ABRII).

On Feb. 22, 2015 a Filipino delegation visited Agricultural Biotechnology Research Institute of Iran (ABRII), under the supervision of Dr. Mario Montejo, the secretary of Science and technology of The Philippines. Dr Amellia Guevara, the undersecretary of research and development of the department of science and technology and Eduardo Martin R. Menez, the ambassador of the Philippines in Iran were accompanying him during the visit.

“We hope to further expand collaborations between Iran and the Philippines in near future”, said Dr Behzad Ghareyazie, The Director General of ABRII, indicating the two countries’ previous standing scientific collaborations.

He also invited two Filipino scientists in the field of medical biotechnology and agricultural biotechnology, to attend the 1st International Biotechnology Congress, that will be held on May 23rd to 25th, 2015 in Tehran.

Dr Babak Nakhoda, the head of international scientific cooperation office in ABRII, said: The Philippines has approved that biotechnology leads to cost effective accomplishments, emphasizing the Iranian panel’s visit from the Philippines in 2011.

Dr Mario Montejo called the opportunity of visiting ABRII an excellent chance for further collaborations between the two countries.

He gave special considerations to the researches achieved in Iran by Iranian scientists in the field of agricultural nanotechnology and biofertilizers.

Developing commercial considerations were also discussed to export and import of agricultural products between Iran and the Philippines.

The authorities finally agreed to consider the possible mutual activities in the field of biotechnology up to the end of Farvardin, 1394 (April 10) and follow up meetings and activities in 2015.
